Well it still puzzles me. Why would Dallas deal away thier franchise player? I strongly believe Boston made out in that deal. I hope that kid is as good as everyone says he is. |

Cody is worth 4 mill/year. Give it to him. |

Cody deserves a bridge deal at 2.5Mper, unless that 4M contract is 5 years or more. But you're negotiating with a meglomaniac father, so good luck |

The Sabres aren't exactly in the best position to be downlplaying Cody's role here. It's hard to justify telling a player that he's not worth $4M, but then turn around and put him as your #1 center, which is what he'll be this year. And I'm sure him and his agent are well aware of that. |

I think Cody is a better asset than, say, Ennis and should get more $$. Love his hustle, hands, vision, shot, attitude...
BUT I'd like to see some kind of 'defensive incentive" in which he gets a nice base salary (say 3.0-3.5) and somehow put some bonuses for +/-, faceoff %, and toi in the contract. Anything to improve his defensive play would be welcome. At center you have to play the 2-way game. |

Yeah good luck with that. It's all about goals and assists. |

Garth's constant knob swabbing of Ruff is ridiculous. Here's an idea, write about the current Sabres, no one gives a poop about a coach that sucks donkey balls and should have been poopcanned YEARS ago. I can't wait to see how short Ruff's tenure in Dallas will be when he's employed by a team that isn't the "old boys club" and just has friends pulling the strings for everything. Ruff hasn't won jack poop and has no clue how to adjust to the way the NHL is currently. The guy is a legend in one place, his own mind. Actually, Garth's and Regier's as well apparently. Someone must smoke the good cheeb. |

Good point.
No offense, but he's too green to be a #1C IMO. Another year at #2 would do him well to round out his game. But you have to sometimes play with what you have, especially with the cap going down. |

No offense taken. And I agree. Though if they could just put him out there and tell him to play his game and not worry so much about everything else, it may actually benefit him.
Coaches need to stop trying to make guys into something their not and allow them to play to their strengths. Cody isn't the best defensively, but I think that'll come the more he plays. In the meantime, he should be put into situations he can be successful in.
The issue on the Sabres roster is that the 3rd line has severely lacked players that fit well in that role. So the top 2 lines are being asked to do things they wouldn't normally be asked to do on a well rounded team.

Well, before Rolston you could make the argument that based on ice time Jochen Hecht was the #1C |
